The Toyota 1KD-FTV is a 3.0-liter, inline-four, turbocharged diesel engine introduced in 2000 as Toyota’s first common-rail D-4D diesel for passenger and commercial vehicles. It powers models like the Land Cruiser Prado, Hilux, Fortuner, and HiAce.

The 1KD-FTV features a 32-bit ECU controlling fuel quantity, boost pressure, and pilot injection for smoother combustion and reduced noise. It delivers 17% more power with 11% less fuel consumption than its predecessor, the 1KZ-TE. Known for strong low-end torque, durability exceeding 400,000 km with proper maintenance, and relatively straightforward servicing, the 1KD remains a popular choice. It is sensitive to fuel quality, requiring high-grade diesel to protect the costly common-rail injection system
