The Toyota 2KD-FTV is a 2.5-liter, inline-four, turbocharged diesel engine introduced in 2001 as part of Toyota’s D-4D common-rail family. It served as the smaller displacement alternative to the 1KD-FTV, primarily powering the Hilux, Fortuner, HiAce, and Dyna in markets such as Southeast Asia, Australia, and Africa.

The 2KD-FTV shares the common-rail architecture of its larger 3.0-liter sibling, offering refined operation, reduced noise, and improved fuel efficiency over older diesel engines. It features a cast-iron block with an aluminum cylinder head and is known for reliable service when properly maintained. While not as powerful as the 1KD-FTV, it delivers adequate low-end torque for light commercial duties and daily driving. The engine is sensitive to fuel quality, requiring clean, high-grade diesel to protect the high-pressure injection system. Regular maintenance and cooling system care are essential for longevity.
